Twice as Nice : Mady & Me Boutique's New Ad and Photo Shoot

We did a photo shoot for these darling twins for Mady and Me's new magazine ad. They brought all of their favorite clothing from Mady and Me "the ultimate children's clothing boutique" in Kansas City.

What's so fun about this session is that these are all their actual clothes. They really do wear these cute little outfits all of the time. Definitely a great advertisement.

Sweet and serious in this darling apron dress. I love the back of the dress with the little matching bloomers that you see in the advertisement above.

Our first try with the hat. Woops. It's backwards. Still smiling, though.

Those crocheted cowboy boots were a hit for both children. So cute!

And, everybody's looking at the camera at the same time. Amazing!:)

Back to School: Story Behind the Magazine Cover Shoot

Tomorrow is the first day back to school for Kessa and Sephine and the first day of kindergarten for Chilton. Kessa is sweetly excited. I think she's looking forward to seeing her friends and the new experiences of 5th grade. Sephine is quite worried, especially about learning cursive. Chilton is all tough guy bravado mixed with little boy oblivious. They all wanted me to pack lunches for them but I talked Chilton into trying school lunch because I ran out of leftover pulled pork from Hillsdale Bank Barbecue and they begged us not to send peanut butter and jelly sandwiches due to so many allergies.

So, in honor of the first day of school, I thought I'd share a little from the making of the July Back to School cover of KC Parent.

Lyric is the model on the cover. She came in for a Mom and Me session this spring and when KC Parent asked for a Tween model, I knew she would be great to work with for this shoot.

I was looking for a green chalk board and I called the elementary principal to find out if there were any in our local schools. She said there were green chalk boards at Circle Grove - a little country school that I attended for elementary school.

The session was quite nostalgic for me. Lyric, her mom and grandma and I set it all up in my 4th grade classroom, complete with the same desks I had, I'm sure.

The KC Parent editors said the images were "Super!". I agree. Thank you Lyric, Lyric's mom and grandma and the ladies at Circle Grove for letting us in.

I'm looking forward to everyone going back to school. I hope you are, too.

 

 

Ella's Spoiled Little Mama photoshoot: Luke's Senior Pictures Part 2

You may be wondering how pictures of a cute 1st grader ended up in Luke's Senior Picture story and you wouldn't be alone. Luke probably was wondering that himself, but Ella, his little sister, had ideas of her own.

Ella is a shy person so I was quite surprised when she told me that she wanted to be in a big picture in a building while we were doing Luke's senior session. We have displays at Oak Park Mall (all new as of Friday so you should check it out), in the windows by Twist, at Mady and Me, in our studio front windows and at For Women Only. I may be missing some. If I am, let me know or if you would like a display of our work in your business, let me know.

 

My upcoming project was to photograph the spring line of Spoiled Little Mama - bright colorful clothing and Ella can be quite serious so I said, "Here's the deal, Ella, you are going to need to smile in these pictures if you are going to model for this particular photo shoot. Can you do that for me?" She flashed this super grin.

Then, I thought, I would see how committed she was to the idea so I also asked her to look at her mom and laugh. She did that great as well.

As you can tell, she can do other looks, too. The hard part is going to be deciding which ones to make as big pictures and what building to put them in.

Spoiled Little Mama photo shoot of the Fall Line with Malee

I met the Lori, the designer of Spoiled Little Mama at last year's Junior League Holiday Mart. 

She designed an amazing dress for her daughter and a cool outfit for her son and brought them down 

to our Bohemian Valentine session. 

I remembered lingering in her booth looking at the beautiful Christmas dresses last year and I was

 equally impressed by the Valentine look she created.

So, I was very excited when she asked me to photograph her upcoming lines for market.

Can you tell Malee was all about modeling for this session? 

And she loved the clothes so much that she ended up taking them home with her. 

That's the best!
